Prior to joining the team at Stirling Psychology, Sarah worked in military, medical and health settings. Her experience includes her role as a medical officer overseeing the mental health and medical care of military personnel, and in the private sector providing direct support to individuals with a range of physical and mental health presentations. 

Committed to her professional development and ongoing learning Sarah completed her postgraduate studies in psychology where she gained experience working in clinical, educational and forensic settings providing consultation, and guidance on the development of strategies and policies for law enforcement, criminal and justice departments and specialist government agencies.

Sarah has a particular interest in working with clients who have experienced grief and trauma, as well as providing individual and group-based interventions for individuals with multiple mental health needs.  Sarah offers support to adults and adolescents experiencing a range of mental health difficulties including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship issues (couples, parent-child), trauma and stress-related disorders.

She is a warm and compassionate psychologist who brings insight and experience to the therapeutic relationship. Her range of experience includes working with individuals impacted by childhood adversity, grief and trauma, interpersonal and relationship stress, life transition and adjustment difficulties, and self-esteem and confidence issues.

Sarah’s level of education and training led to her receiving registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and being awarded membership to the Australian Psychological Society (APS).  After completing a Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science and Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), Sarah went on to complete a Master of Professional Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology Practice.  

Sarah has Advanced Diplomas of Nutrition, Nutritional Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine. She has also completed a Bachelor of Health Science Naturopathy and a Doctor of Medicine M.D (Alternative Medicine).

Volunteer Positions

Sarah has volunteered as a telephone crisis supporter and mental health support group facilitator for anxiety and mood disorders and trauma groups for over 7 years. In addition, Sarah runs workshops, groups and training programs for adolescents and adults. 

Research/ Area of Interest

Sarah is passionate about the treatment of complex trauma-related problems and the impact of adverse childhood experiences, abuse, grief and loss. She believes that effective complex trauma treatment should utilise physiological and somatic (body-based) approaches, affective (emotions) and cognitive (mind) approaches.  Sarah’s interests led her to undertake training in complex trauma-informed care and Emotion Focused Therapy. 

Sarah has completed training in threat and behavioural risk assessment and management, and violence risk escalation and de-escalation strategies. Sarah is a contributing author of The International Handbook of Threat Assessment 2nd Edition.

Therapeutic Approach

Sarah’s warm, gentle and compassionate approach to therapy allows her clients to feel safe and supported in the therapeutic environment. Her strength is in engaging her clients to feel comfortable with sharing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences to overcome challenges, develop clarity and insight and hope for healing and positive change. 

Sarah values the use of online therapy as a medium to remove barries to much needed support. She believes that enabling Australians to access online psychologists will ensure many more Australians access high quality treatment.  Sarah also values the opportunity to work with her clients face-to-face at our Mornington Psychology practice.
